Hugs Layout with Go The Scenic Route

Hello crafty friends, it’s Kelly.  As my time on Paige’s Silhouette Design Team winds down, I’ve made this last layout with love and hugs to Paige.

It’s been such a pleasure and privilege. I’ve loved every single minute of working with the gorgeous collections, clever cut files and of course, our Paige, who’s always beyond kind and supportive. My layout was filled with all my favourite things from Go The Scenic Route and a few bits from previous collections too.

I’ve used Paige’s Flower Frame cut file to put Paige and me into a colourful garden filled with pretty butterflies and birds. Once cut out of white AC Cardstock, I backed the flowers with a focus on yellow, pink and orange and used three different blue/green papers to back the leaves.  Paige’s Turn The Page, Pick Me Up, Horizon and Go The Scenic Route collections have all contributed. The first three are available digitally, so you can print it all at home to your heart’s content! How fabulous it that?

Once backed, I made holes for stitching. Paige actually has a cut file specifically for stitching the Flower Frame, but I wanted to stitch, ‘just inside the cut file’ so I made the holes by hand. Then, using six strands of DMC Thread, I stitched each flower and leaf over about three days. I chose thread colours, not so they’d match the paper exactly, but so they’d simply complement the paper. That allowed me to add more and more shades of each colour to my design.  Once completely stitched, I placed it on an offset of the cut file that was cut out of the deep green, Paper 22 from Pick Me Up. It created a nice boarder around the cut file that helps it stand off the background.

The background paper, with its delicate coloured frames was a nice alternative to a plain white cardstock and I thought, nicely echo’d the frame cut file. You may have noticed my preference for a patterned paper in my backgrounds. For me, it’s one more opportunity to bring colour, shape and texture to a project. It’s Paper 19, also from Pick Me Up. I wanted a second mat around the layout and used pretty and feminine Paper 23 from Pick Me Up. That too was stitched and small coordinating beads were popped on every seventh chain.  Can you ever have too many flowers?

Since that’s a big no from me, I added flowers, birds, sunshine and butterflies from the Chipboard Stickers , more flowers from the Floral Die Cut pack and even more butterflies from Paper 20, all from Go The Scenic Route. The ‘yay you’ banner was perfect and it’s from the Ephemera Die Cut package of Paige’s new collection available exclusively at Michaels Craft Stores.

Finally, there’s the photo I took of Paige in her pretty booth at Creativation last year and a photo of myself, used on my team banner.  Paige’s cute photo is popped up on a tag from the Ephemera Die Cut pack with a tiny tassel and thread from my stash.  Most importantly, ‘HUGS’, spelt out with the Foam Thickers is what I send out to each and every one of you !!

Thanks ever so much for the wonderful opportunity Paige !

Thanks to all of you for cheering me on!

It’s been a dream come true, Hugs Kelly xo

  1. You have the knack for creating beautiful things. I know you’ve thoroughly enjoyed your time on Paige’s design team and I also know how much she’s appreciated you. Your talents show off her product to beautiful effect. I’m so glad I could be with you when you met in person for the first time. When I think back on the fact that COVID was already spreading (though little did we know), we really timed this to perfection. I’m glad you have stitching to keep your hands working creatively. It’s still beyond me that you don’t mangle and wrinkle the paper while you stitch. One day I hope to see you in action. Love to you, dear Boomdee.

    1. Hey hon, yes that was really lucky that the pandemic took off after my trip, missing lockdown by only a few weeks. It’s too bad Creativation couldn’t happen this year, it’s such an important and happy event for designers and paper lovers alike. I’ve actually pre-ordered a couple of collections that should arrive in March, including Paige’s next one called Wonders.
Paper is actually pretty sturdy too stitch on. This particular cut file, being a frame, had some delicate stems that I added splints too on the back. I didn’t do any stitching until it was all backed with paper, which made it extra sturdy. It’s just a case of being careful when you’re flipping it over to find the next hole.
Paige has some simple Sketch and Stitch files in Silhouette if you ever have the notion, or in your case, the time. Thanks so much for popping in with your delightful message !! xo ❤ K

      1. So many businesses have struggled with this pandemic. It’s really a shame not to have the event this year. I’m so glad you had the chance to go and meet Paige when you did, and I’m delighted I could come along for the experience. That day flew by!

Wonders is such a nice name for a line of products. I’m excited to see what you come up with next.

    1. Hello hello lovely Lavinia ❤ Thanks so so much for your cheer and hugs ! I'm working my way through this collection and looking forward to a new one called Wonders. It comes out in March, which I guess isn't too far away now. I'm still in a leg brace and the weeks seem to go by a bit slow, but I'm looking forward to spring when I can get outside and walk on safe sidewalks !! Have a fabulous day my dear xK

  2. Kelly, this is beyond beautiful! I can’t believe the detail you have put in to this layout, it is truly a work of art. You were so deserving of your terms on Paige Evan’s design team and I’m delighted you had that opportunity to share your work with the world! So happy I’ll still see your posts in the facebook group and on your awesome blog.💗💗💗

    1. Sandy, you are so dear, thank you for all your sweet words. I was really happy how this came together. The papers I used felt like a true reflection of what I saw in my minds eye. I was so happy to have that background paper still and squealed when I came upon it, thinking, “yep, perfect, this is the one”. Does that happen to you? 😀
It was such a fabulous opportunity to design for Paige. She’s just a delight. Any future design teams I might be blessed to join have big shoes to fill. I’ve preordered Wonders from Cherry On Top to be sure to get what I want. I’m sure TM will have some too. I can’t wait until we can scrap together xo ❤ K
