Kelly Made It for The Hip Kit Club – Moodboard Inspired Sunday

Hello crafty friends!  You probably heard my amazing news.  I’m one of the newest Hip Kit Club Design Team members !  Yes I am 😀 Today I’m sharing my latest project and a fun technique for a super pretty background.

What’s a Moodboard?

Every month, one of our talented HIP KIT CLUB Designers make a colourful board to inspire our creations. Here’s what sweet Sophie Delorme designed for September. If you’ve followed me for a bit, you know how much I love the minty, aqua, seafoam hues and of course I was smitten with Sophie’s creation.

Check out those beautiful paint pots and sea glass hanger! Gorgeous right?!  These are the two items that most inspired my layout.

I used simple circle punches to make my own cloud stencil and used the Nuvo Hybrid Inks that were part of the HIP KIT CLUB April Colour Kit.  You can shop at that link, it’s still in stock!  Lemoncello, by Catherine Pooler is part of the HIP KIT CLUB August Colour Kit. You can shop that link too.

Simply use your circle punches to make various sized circles. Tape them to a strip of paper 12″ long. Vary the size and height for best effect.  To add even more variance to your colourful cloudy sky, make a spare that you flip over and stencil the opposite side too.

KMI Cloud KMI Cloud Template As I stenciled, changing colours in every row, I left a little white space above each cloud so it would look the the sun was shining there. Homemade cloud stencil

Here’s a few close ups of the finished layout.

Gold stitching and shaker pockets add a nice bit of texture.

I actually changed the colours of the unicorn by cutting off the tail, horn and mane and replacing them with colours from the rainbow pocket card. Easy peasy and now she matches perfectly. @KellyMadeIt for HKC - Moodboard 12:09:21 1 copy Kim Watson designed the perfect cut file for my photos of my friend Nadine and her daughter. They enjoy the outdoors together and are always up to something fun. Yes, it’s definitely in the genes!

    1. Good morning sweet Alys! Thanks a bunch for your message. I wanted the sky to match the unicorn floatie and look dreamy. So I think it worked well. I would make my next template on the Cameo, but thought it’d be fun to show how even if you didn’t have an electronic cutter. xo K

  1. I have caught up with you, Kelly. You make some very beautiful things here, and I enjoy the colors and good cheer! I don’t have any time for crafting right now, life has been too hectic, but love to see what can be done.

  2. Love the colors you use. It looks like so much fun to make and I wonder if I’d even try all that had I time and talent. You make it all look so easy. I’ll stick to the fabrics for now though. Hugs.

  3. Fresh and fun in the lemon/turquoise colour combo! Love the pretty sequins in the shaker and the clouds are the icing on the cake of this gorgeous page. Thanks for the tip about making our own cloud stencil – so clever.

    1. Hi hi Helen ! Thanks for your visit and fab message too. I think there’s a few cut files at the Silhouette Design Store too and you could totally make it yourself in Silhouette. Same process, make a few circle sizes, lay them on a rectangle and then weld it all together. I thought I’d show a trick for those without an electronic cutter. I’m a bit smitten with this colour combo. Sophie made a gorgeous Mood Board 💛💛💛
