Hi friends, summer is fast approaching and I’m hoping that mine will include a beach somewhere, sometime.
This summer layout features Blooming Wild, Splendid, Garden Shoppe, Sugarplum Wishes and Paige’s Sandcastle Cut File. It’s an awesome cut file if you love adding lots of colour and pattern to your layouts. I sure do, and who says a sandcastle has to be brown? Not in my scrap room!
The cut file and background are cut from AC Cardstock. After backing the castle with patterned papers from the collections, I glued it to a shadow made in the Silhouette Design Studio using the Offset feature. I did a simple running stitch along the edge, going around twice, using Variegated DMC Floss 4077.

To make my background, I used Paiges, Alphabet Background Cut File. Using the inside portion of the letters, I spelt out, ‘Life’s A Beach’ over and over to fill the paper. Once cut out, I laid it over another sheet of white cardstock for the pretty embossed appearance.

To make the bokeh bubbles on the background, I made my own stencil with a nested circle die set. Then, with soft brushes and Oxide Inks, I stenciled in opposite corners, overlapping some of the circles. To emphasize them and add more color and texture, I chain stitched around each bubble using Variegated DMC Flosses 4095 and 4040.

I kept my embellishments to a minimum, using a Chipboard Circle, Cardstock Sticker and Mini Floral Puffy Sticker from Blooming Wild, Mini Puffy Letters from Sugarplum Wishes and a Cardstock Sticker from the Garden Shop Sticker book. Finally, I made little 3D clouds and added splatter using the same Oxide Inks watered down. Of course there’s sequins, gold Stickles and gold acrylic paint added to emphasize the diagonal design.

There’s just endless options for mixing Paige’s collections together to scrap your own awesome summer memories. A cut file is always a fun place to start, check out Paige’s Summer Cut File Bundles in her shop!

Lovely, Kelly. Your attention to detail makes all your designs shine. I remember you sewing that dress for your visit to Maui. I think you misplaced one of the cut pieces, so you improvised. I miss your Boomdee tales!

LOL, yes 😆 since it took me a year to go from cutting it out to sewing it, I lost a piece. It matches the kitty pillow in my craft room. Thanks for cheering on my project !

Thanks again lovely! I’m so happy you like it. I’m a bit smitten with Variegated DMC Floss at the moment. I’ve ordered from 123Stitch in the USA. They have most colours! 💛🌸

How fabulous to grow up near the ocean! Was it warm enough to swim there? I’m a true blue water baby from the prairies of Canada. 😆Bit of a fish out of water I suppose. It’s my dream to live on the west coast…..someday 🌸💛 Thanks so much for coming by and your message too Lavinia 🌈
