Hello crafty friends!
As promised, today I’m sharing a mixed media layout designed for the Treasured Memories December Scrapbook Kit. With a little paint and your favourite stencil, you can easily turn plain white cardstock into a pretty background for your layouts.
Here’s what I started with.
I chose Prima Opal Magic paints for this project. Once dry, the unique two-tone iridescent effect changes tone when viewed from different angles. I really love the sheen and super smooth consistency of these paints. We have a rainbow of colours available at Treasured Memories.
BTW – The light blue mat on the right is actually the plastic cover that comes with your Cameo Cut Mat. Once the mat is used up, keep the cover to use for your paint projects. They clean up easily with a damp cloth. Plus, it’s a free craft mat!
I like to tape my stencils down over my paper to ensure they don’t move before I finish.
Pick up a little paint from the jar with a small brush and swipe it on to your craft mat. Add a very small amount of water and blend. Lightly swipe your blending brush through the paint. Now dab your blending brush onto a paper towel to remove most of the moisture. A dryer blender is desired so that the paint doesn’t seep under the stencil. Hold the stencil down firmly to the paper as you go.
Work your way around the stencil with a light touch. Be sure to completely lift up the blending brush between each pounce rather than dragging it across the stencil. You’ll avoid bending the stencil and messing up the design. I prefer to leave a very random edge all around. Think about overlapping the colours a little bit, providing they’re compatible.
Ready to embellish? All the embellishments seen here are in the kit (we all got a unique tag and yours will differ from mine). The trees are fussy cut from the patterned paper. Cut 1/3 off the doily to use as shown.
I rubbed a small amount of white gesso onto the pink straw (candy cane) to dull it down a bit so that it was a good match to the doily. Then, I cut off an inch from one end and glued it just under the right edge of the photo. This extended the straw and made it ‘look’ longer. The gap is hidden under the photo. Used liquid white glue to add it to the layout. If desired, emboss the bottom half of the word ‘Believe’ then glue it to the top of the straw. Glue the doilies and icicles beneath the straw, tucking in nicely. Finally, glue on the little fawn next to your photo!
Thank you so much for coming by and let me know if I can help.
Cheers dears, Kelly
