Big deal ! Have you heard? I’ve joined the Treasured Memories Design Team !?
Ain’t life sweet !?
The lovely Design Team co-ordinator, Nadine, puts together a small kit for me to work with. I glue, paste, cut, zing, ka-pow and return a layout to the store. Here’s a peek at what’s happened so far:
My craftroom was all abuzz with a fun Design Team challenge last week! We each got a mini clipboard to work with. Instructions? “Design *anything* you want”. The skies the limit? Eeeep!
You’ll probably pick my out in a heartbeat. First off, it’s the only one that hangs askew, LOL ! That’s me, a bit wacky-doodle 😀 But then obviously, it’s also full of sparkle and shine.
I called my creation ‘Bee’ 😀
I began by creating a bee hive’ish mosaic using Tim Holtz, Paper Mosaic Kit. The paper is all from Crate Paper’s Flourish Collection, which I absolutely love! I used a die to cut out all the tiny hexagons.
Once glued, glazed and dry on the clipboard, I added a heart made of paper roses. Each rose was made with hand-tinted watercolour paper. I use various sprays and inks, then die-cut the roses on my Big Shot.
I wanted little Bumble Bees to float over my rosey heart. So, I wrapped a couple layers of tulle around the project. You still see everything through the tulle, but it gave me a place to add the bees so they’re a bit above the hive and roses. I think everything looks a little more ethereal under a veil, don’t you?
The clip was layered with jewels and gems. I tinted some of the clear gems with Rangers Alcohol Ink to match the project. Have you ever tried that? It works great. Can you guess which ones were dyed?
The cherry on top is this small music box I found on our recent holiday to Australia. It happily plays, ‘What A Wonderful World’. A few affirmations for a wonderful world, dangle from beaded wire, like charms. To keep them in place on the handle, I made a small paper bead. The bead’s big enough that the charms don’t slip off when you play the music box.
PS, I always love finding little music box’s on holidays. This one’s a bit more special because it plays the same song we played in a garden park as I married the love of my life. April 12th was our 17th Wedding Anniversary! So how fun to have this challenge to work on the whole week. Thanks so much Treasured Memories!

Good Morning Lavinia! Happy Saturday. Maybe you’re already outside in the garden! It’s going to be 26 C here today, Hooray.
Thank you so much for your message ❤ It's all stuff I already had in my craftroom, except for the mini clipboard. So that's a bit of Stash-busting (as we call it in the hobby) too 😀 x K

It’s beautiful.
I find little music boxes of that type fascinating because you can see what’s happening.

So, first I had to go do a little research on Treasured Memories. I knew that you had this new job but I really didn’t know what it was. So, this is a pretty impressive thing, Kelly! Congratulations, not only for finding a job where your talent will be showcased but also where you are appreciated!
Your work is beautiful and I love the music box!

Oh, thanks for looking them up LB. I’m only on their design team, so not working there actually. But when I’m there, I usually do know a shopper or two from my old job, ha. What it entails is creating stuff for the store to inspire. Get the shopper to see what’s possible with any particular product or collection of papers. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. I get to be creative with a purpose, but on my own schedule. Plus! Everyone is super nice, sweet and friendly and that’s more important to me than $. Really, I never worked at Urban for the $ either, I just loved the girls I spent the day with and of course all the product too. We were kind of like the Edmonton Oilers of the 70’s, LOL When Gretzky played here and they won the cup a few times. Everyone just came together and jelled. How about your clinic? Have you all settled in? xo K

If I’m starting with paper, Ha! Pantry items are more of a challenge, but hey? That’s what bakeries are for 😀 Thanks so much AC! x K

PS I love that song! What a charming idea to attach a music box to your clipboard. Just yesterday I played the little music box you sent me one year. Mike showed me how it resonates nicely on wood, so I leave it on the book shelf and play it against the side board. 🙂

Oh happenstance right?! I really love the simple sound of these little music boxes as the metal tangs plink at the drum. I’ll have to try Mikes tip! xo K

I was amazed at the difference. It really ads to the sound. (I guess that’s wear the term “sounding board” came from). Or not. But I can pretend that I’m so clever. Ha!

What a treasure. I’m amazed at the way you pull so many details together to create lovely themes. Happy anniversary, if I haven’t said so already.
You’re both the bee’s knees. xo

((( You’re ))) a treasure ! ❤ But this sparkly little trinket does make me smile. I had a little vision from the beginning, knowing I wanted to incorporate my treasure from holiday. It was great to have a deadline and challenge really. Because these little things can sometimes languish in drawers for too long. Thank you for your message hon and anniversary wishes too. I look at our wedding photo on our nightstand and think, wow, that seems like yesterday ❤ ❤ xo k Bee's knees 😀 hee hee xoxo

For me, designing a mixed media project or even a scrapbook layout all happens rather accidentally or maybe ‘organically’ is a better word.
I have a loose idea that comes to mind. It might be fostered by wanting to include something particular (like that music box) and then the project evolves as I try to physically make what I envisioned in my head. Does any of this make sense? LOL xo K

Actually, it all makes sense. It’s how I tend to create, too, though not generally with your amazing results. I have an idea, usually colors in mind, and from there it evolves organically. xo

LOL, maybe I need a jetpack 😀 I should say October. Because leaving the yard for Jim in the summer is stretching my luck, LOL What about October? Birthday celebrations? Maybe Jim and I could replan Carmel with you and Mike and then you and I could hang out a few extra days? ya think?

I like the idea. I’ll run it by Mike, making sure he doesn’t have some sort of corporate conflict. We’ll have fun!
